Raissa
Gabriel knew she wanted to be an illustrator at the age of five. Having grown
up in New York, she graduated from the High School of Art and Design, an arts
high school that cultivates striving artists and the creative mind. After working
as a sketch artist for various start up companies, she then attended the Fashion
Institute of Technology, graduating with a BFA in General Illustration and Graphic
Design.
Raissa was hired immediately after graduation to work for Heatherette, illustrating
with CAD as well as by hand for their women’s apparel line. She was then
recriuted by John Loring, Design Director of Tiffany & Co. to assist with
the production and publication of their award winning book Tiffany In Fashion
(Abrams).
She continued her development attending the Art Students League of New York
and also worked and studied closely with Ultra Violet, a well known part of
the Andy Warhol circle of artists.
She has experience working for fashion houses such as Polo Ralph Lauren , Trico
and Nations Billions illustrating fine apparel and better sportswear, sketching
croquiis, as well as creating presentation boards and CAD sketches in Illustrator
and Photoshop. She has also worked for various Fortune 500 companies designing
logos, character design and storyboards.
She deeply admires the work of Alphonse Mucha, Albrecht Dürer, Antonio
Lopez and Arthur Rackham, all of whom greatly influence and inspire her own
creations.
Raissa is based in New York as a full time freelance illustrator.
